Hello, Hm, I tested your code as is within a notebook of my own using an R kernel and it seems to be working. I will look into it further and perhaps Adelaide may also have additional insight!

Yes I do believe that if you want to load files into your notebook from a bucket (workspace associated or external), gsutil is the way to go about doing that.
