Terra notebook cloud compute cost

Hi,

To our understanding, Terra's jupyter notebooks leverage the google cloud infrastructure (e.g. virtual machine instances, boot disk, and persistent disk). The "Running cloud compute cost" is the per hour cost of the VM instance and boot disk, while the persistent disk cost is under "Persistent disk cost".

In this Terra notebook screenshot, we interpret this as $1.52 per hour being the cost of a 32 CPU, 120 GB memory VM instance and 115 GB boot disk.

When we configure the same size VM instance and boot disk through the google cloud console, the cost is $1.06 per hour.

Do you folks have any insight in the $0.46 per hour cost difference between these two options?

Best,

Sabrina Camp

    Hi Sabrina Camp,

It looks like you're using an E2 machine type when configuring a VM in Google Cloud Console. Terra cloud environments are created with N1 machine types, so that might be why are you seeing a difference in pricing.

    Hi Samantha,

That is the reason. Thanks for clarifying the price difference.
