What permissions do I need to create GCP projects (on GCP, not on terra) linked to a Terra billing project?
I want to create a new GCP project in the GCP dashboard where i can enable GCP APIs like AI Notebooks. What minimum permissions do I need?
I've been added to a Terra billing project, and can create workspaces in the Terra UI... But when I follow this tut in the docs, I do not have a drop-down to select a GCP billing account. What permissions do I need to have my terra billing project show up in the GCP "create project" dialog?
In general, my goal is to create a GCP project linked to my Terra billing project where i can use GCP features & APIs. If there's an easier way to achieve this goal than creating a new GCP project, I'd love to know! But it sounds like the way to proceed here is to create a new peroject in GCP linked to the billing project, where id' have full ownership permissions over the project.
Hi William Grisaitis,
Thanks for reaching out. Permissions for Google billing accounts are different from Terra billing projects. If you were given permission to a Terra billing project, that doesn't necessarily mean you have access to the Google billing account funding it. As stated in the tutorial you linked, you'll need either owner or user permissions to the Google billing account in order to set up a GCP-native project on the GCP console:
To clarify, this will not be possible - Terra billing projects are already linked to a GCP project. It sounds like what you want is to create a GCP project in the Google billing account that is funding your Terra billing project.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks, Samantha (she/her)!
What's the best way for the owner on the Google Billing Account to grant me privileges to create GCP projects (with full API permissions)? We're a small lab so maybe they'll just make me an owner... But I'm wondering if you're familiar with a better practice. Unfortunately I have no idea how role management works with GCP billing accounts.
Hi William Grisaitis,
Sorry for the delayed response. The owner of the Billing Account will need to follow these instructions from Google to give you the appropriate permissions:
