GCP compute.instances.create error

I did a week long crash course on GATK and Terra couple days ago. Today I was trying out GCP and wanted to check out their AI Hub, which can be found under https://console.cloud.google.com/mlengine

I tried create a basic notebook under https://console.cloud.google.com/mlengine/notebooks/instances?project=fccredits-thorium-rose-8246 but I cannot create a new instance. I am getting the following:

is it accepted behaviour? can i do anything to correct it?

sorry if it is a silly question

    Hello Bulat,

If you sign-up for Free Credits, which it looks like you already have, you can create a notebook directly from Terra. Free Credits are a terra-project which means that they do not have permissions to create anything outside of Terra. They have limited project permissions set on them that allow you to access Google buckets outside of Terra etc but the credits are Terra compute so creating a notebook instance needs to be done via the Terra UI.

To start a new Notebook, sign-in to Terra, create a new Workspace (from "Your Workspaces"), and then start a Notebook (from the Runtime Environment by clicking the play button - or read linked document for other options to start a Notebook). The Terra UI will handle the creation of a VM instance and will initialize the notebook for you by using the Free Credits billing project that you used to create the Workspace.

I hope this helps but please feel free to let us know if you have any further questions.

    cool, thanks a lot.

I know we can provide custom scripts when creating an instance to install 3rd party software or packages. But is it possible to create a CUDA / GPU enabled instance via Terra?

    Hi Bulat,

This is not yet possible for notebooks and though it is in our To Do list, it is not set for a specific date.
