What we're solving
Data Custodians on datasets are often also involved in sequencing and data delivery via snapshots to other labs. Their user role does not enable them to add other data custodians and lower level roles which results in a lot of manually adding roles on each snapshot. We want to give Data Custodians additional share permissions, so that they may add other data custodians, ingesters, and snapshot creators on the dataset and can optionally inherit access to snapshots created from the source dataset.
Benefits to the user experience
The ability to share equivalent and less permissive roles clarifies our user experience for data custodians and researchers and brings the dataset data custodian role into alignment with snapshot stewards who serve similar roles for snapshots. Data Custodians will be able to more easily share datasets with other users and optionally inherit access to snapshots.
Try it Out
This feature is currently in development and is not yet publicly available. After this goes into effect, Data Custodians will be able to add other Data Custodians to the dataset and those users will be able to optionally inherit access to snapshots from that dataset (opt in).
